Viora vs Wispr Flow — A macOS-Native Alternative
Comparing Viora and Wispr Flow for macOS voice dictation in 2026. Side-by-side on platform, pricing, languages, and what each one is actually best at.
By the Viora team · Last updated April 27, 2026.
Wispr Flow is one of the best-known voice-to-text tools available today, with apps for Mac, Windows, iPhone, and Android. Viora plays in the same lane on macOS and adds an agent mode that can act on what you say, not just transcribe it. If you're looking at Wispr Flow but want a Mac-first tool that goes beyond dictation, this page lays out the practical differences and who each one fits.
TL;DR — when to pick which
- Pick Wispr Flow if you need the same voice setup on Windows, iPhone, or Android, if 100+ language coverage matters, or if you want a tool that has been audited HIPAA-ready out of the box.
- Pick Viora if you live on macOS and you want voice to do more than dictate — search the web, run tools through your calendar and connectors, and learn workflows over time, all from one hotkey.

Where Viora differs in practice
One hotkey, two modes
Hold a single key (Fn on Mac keyboards, Ctrl+F on others) and Viora starts listening. When you let go, an intent classifier decides what happens next:
- If you have text selected and your cursor is in an input box, Viora figures out whether you wanted to edit that text or ask about it, and routes accordingly.
- Otherwise it dictates cleaned-up text into the cursor, the same way every other dictation tool does.
- If your sentence is a question or a task ("schedule a 30-minute focus block tomorrow"), Viora opens the Agent Card next to its on-screen Capsule and streams an answer. Tool calls — calendar lookup, web search, third-party connectors — run inline.
Wispr Flow stays on the second rail: it dictates and cleans up. There is no equivalent path that turns a spoken sentence into a calendar event or a web answer.
The Capsule UI
Viora's signature on macOS is the Capsule — a floating orb that docks to one of four corner states (top-left, top-right, half-hidden left, half-hidden right). When the agent answers, a separate Agent Card window opens on the side opposite to the docking edge so the response never opens off-screen. The Status button on the Capsule re-opens your last response and focuses a text input, so you can refine your prompt without re-recording. Wispr Flow uses a more conventional menu-bar icon and toast.
Evolved Skills
When the same kind of agent request comes back enough times, Viora's backend drafts a "Skill" proposal. You review it once as a Dream Draft; from then on Viora recognises that intent and re-runs the saved workflow. Rejected drafts go on a cooldown so you don't see the same suggestion again. Wispr Flow's analogous feature is its synced personal dictionary and snippet library — useful for short text expansion, but it does not learn multi-step workflows.
Where Wispr Flow is stronger
We're not going to pretend Wispr Flow is a worse product — it is not.
- Cross-platform. If your day moves between a Mac, a Windows laptop, and a phone, Wispr Flow keeps your dictionary and style consistent across all of them. Viora has no Windows, iOS, or Android client today and no near-term plans for one.
- Languages. 100+ supported, vs 28+ in Viora.
- Latency. Wispr Flow has invested heavily in end-to-end latency and publishes a sub-700 ms p99 figure. Viora is real-time but does not match that number on any public benchmark.
- HIPAA-ready on every plan. If you work in regulated environments, Wispr Flow has done the compliance work; Viora has no equivalent posture today.
- Cleaner pricing model. Wispr Flow Pro is unlimited usage at $12/user/month. Viora's word-quota pricing requires a bit more thought about how much you'll actually use.
Migrating from Wispr Flow to Viora
There is nothing to import — Viora doesn't read Wispr Flow's dictionary or snippets. The migration path is short:
- Install Viora, pick your hotkey in Settings → Keyboard Shortcuts.
- Walk through the onboarding once.
- Use Viora for the kinds of tasks where Wispr Flow used to drop you back to a chat tab or browser — that's where the agent mode pays off.
If you rely on synced cross-device dictation today, the pragmatic answer is to keep Wispr Flow on your phone for messaging and try Viora on the Mac for agent-shaped work. The two tools don't conflict.
